Words Beats & Life student Edwin Martinez organized and hosted his first event, Breaking the Hunger last Thursday, aimed at raising money and awareness to help combat global hunger. The event featured poetry, music and breakdancing, including performances from Martinez and WBL staff member Lauren Schreiber.
Breaking the Hunger was inspired by the United Nation Millennium Development Goals, specifically focused on the first goal, eradicating extreme poverty and hunger on a global level. In between performances, the event included a presentation from Fourth World Movement, an organization that works to eliminate poverty on both a national and international scale.
With a suggested donation of $5-$10 at the door, the event raised over $230 that will be donated to Fourth World Movement.
