At the top of last month WBL staff went on a road-trip to Chicago for our first Midwestern Teach-In. In collaboration with Chicago-based organizations, we convened artists, scholars, activists and hip-hop heads from Chicago, the Midwest and beyond to a three day long event built to celebrate, create, appreciate, and interrogate all things hip-hop.
With major players from the hip-hop and social change games like Kevin Coval, from Louder than a Bomb, Invincible the Detroit-based rapper, Lavie Raven of the University of Hip-Hop, and the Inner-City Muslim Action Network’s (IMAN) Asad Jafri, our inaugural Midwest Teach-In brought people from all walks of life to together to engage in the not-so-simple questions that plague those of us who never gave up on hip-hop and are still actively working through it to promote love, peace, unity and having fun.
