The DC Urban Arts Academy (DCUAA) offers free classes year-round centered around the 4 elements of hip-hop culture. Recently, Words Beats & Life, Inc. has also piloted our Spoken Word/Poetry course and re-launched our Chess Program. All of our classes use a unique curriculum developed by our staff of working artists, and incorporates both DC Public Schools and National Education Standards.
Classes are offered in 4 sessions throughout the year, paired closely with the DCPS quarters and a summer session. Each session has it’s own overarching theme that bridges all of the elements together, encouraging students to think critically about their art and the world
that surrounds them. The DC Urban Arts Academy follows both the Federal Government & DCPS school calendar for holidays & general closings. If either DCPS or the Federal Government closes early as a result of inclement weather, classes will be canceled. Below is the current session information:
